Yesterday was Groundhog Day, and after a startling appearance of the groundhog’s shadow, the verdict is unfortunately six more weeks of winter. With that, and the recession that we can’t go an hour without hearing about, maybe we should consider hibernating for the next six weeks…or at least twenty-four hours.
One bookseller has already set a precedent for twenty-four-hour hibernation. According to Deadline Scotland, a Scottish bookseller from the Watermill Bookshop had a full day “bed-in” at her shop a few weeks ago. Imagine being a customer and seeing the owner of the bookshop in bed with a cup of tea and a good book. How would you react?
The bookseller, Jayne Ramage, said, “This is something I try and do three or four times a year myself. I always find reading a chapter a night is never enough, so I try and spend the whole day surrounded by everything I need and just read.” And in fact, she did just that, inspiring others to take time to read. In her mind, “Reading is totally recession proof, and in today’s climate that really is saying something.”
What would you read if you had a full day of reading hibernation?
